Any information on Edmonton will be very much appreciated. Or any useful link. Neither of us have been to Canada. Information about the weather, unemployment rate, cost of living, quality of live, criminality rate, how is life there, anything that can be different and one should know! Thank you!

There is no shortage of work in Edmonton, but at the same time a good portion of the population is very well educated so the higher paying jobs are competitive. The cost of living, rent, groceries, hydro etc. is quite reasonable compared to other areas of Canada. Edmonton has excellent public schools especially for children with special needs or learning disabilities. The summers are hot and the winters cold. The majority of the crimes seem to be centred in the south end of the city and although the town is taking measures to combat the problem, there is gang activity and a lot of drug related crime. ( as there is in any city ) Sherwood Park or the other new subdivisions on the outskirts of Edmonton or the north part of Edmonton is, I think the best area%26#039;s to live in. it looks alot like America, but politically and socially it is very similar to Europe.|||Search the internet. go to google and search the city. You will find plenty.|||Here you go. Hope it%26#039;s helpful. I live 20 minutes south of Edmonton. It%26#039;s a nice place to live. All the best.|||I have not been to Edmonton but I have friends that have lived there. The economy in Alberta is very good right now because of the oil boom. Last I heard house prices are reasonable (compared to Toronto or Vancouver). The winters are cold! (Compared to some of the other places in the country.)|||Information about the weather.

Winters can be nasty, but last winter was very pleasant. Average temp about -8 in January. Summers are even better, and the city is rather %26quot;green%26quot; with quite a few valley forests and very well kept parks. We%26#039;re going through a bit of a heatwave right now, averaging about +32 in the sun.

unemployment rate.

At the moment, virtually none! Every single business is hiring, and shortstaffed. From Oil firms to MacDonalds, to Tim Hortons (Trust me, you%26#039;ll find out ALL about %26quot;Timmys%26quot; when you get here. It makes Starbucks look pretty tiny.)

We do, however, have a huge rise in the homeless rate, which neither municipal or provincial Governments seem to care about.

cost of living.

On the rise. Out of all the 10 provinces, Alberta is the most heavily taxed (The government calls it %26quot;User fees%26quot; and hides most of the costs in the prices.) But if you don%26#039;t smoke or drink, you%26#039;ll probably be fine. We do have the lowest prices at the gas pump though. (Still a gouge, but worse elsewhere.)

quality of live.

Hard to compare, but the best word for it would be... Great.

criminality rate.

Due to those self-same hikes in taxes and user fees, criminal activity has been on the rise, but nothing like the U.S. Although we have recently developed a %26quot;gang%26quot; problem, no innocents have been hurt (For the most part). Serious crimes, however, are on the decline.

Great county side views|||Edmonton is a very beautiful city. The standard of living is very high . There is some crime, but that is to be expected of any major city. You should pack some very warm clothes as it does get very cold in the winter. You and your Husband will love Edmonton. And if you can visit Toronto.|||I live in Edmonton (walking distance to West Edmonton Mall).

Yes it gets cold in Edmonton but I found it worse in Holland and England during the winter. Both England%26#039;s and Holland%26#039;s humidity make my bones feel cold and the heating systems were terrible! We have great central heating, heated garages, heated underground parking, car starters, etc. (Even my friend from Tasmania in Australia says that the winters are not bad here.)

The summers are great (it was 33 today, normally it is between 23-28 for the summer).

Alberta%26#039;s economy is the best! We now have the world%26#039;s largest oil reserve. The Athabasca Oil Sands (previously known as the Athabasca Tar sands) have estimated oil reserves in excess of that of the rest of the world, estimated to be 1.6 trillion barrels (254 km3).

Edmonton%26#039;s housing market has shot up in the last few years but it is still very reasonable.

Edmonton is known as festival city because of all the festivals (see my following links).

Edmonton%26#039;s river valley is fantastic! (I went for a 6 km walk this morning and I love that I am in the middle of the city but surrounded by nature.) %26quot;Approximately 21 times larger that New York City鈥檚 Central Park, Edmonton鈥檚 River Valley is the largest stretch of urban parkland in North America and overflows with active living opportunities. There is great skiing close by (Banff, Jasper, and even just off of downtown.)

I could go on and on but remember that Canada was voted the best country in the world almost every year in the 90%26#039;s for the reasons you are asking about.

P.S. The south side is the desired part of the city and the North side is what we jokingly call %26quot;the hood%26quot; (even though there is no such thing in Edmonton).|||I was out there last year for a month and ahalf ..loved it .........as a matter of fact we are moving all the way across canada to Edmonton at the end of the month ....east coast to the west coast ....Trust me theres lots to see and do....|||Edmonton has the most terrible Winters imaginable. There is a huge Shopping Center with everything under the Sun in it.

If I had to live in Alberta, I would choose Calgary.|||WEST EDMONTON MALL HUGE!!!, GOOD FOR HOCKEY, HEAVY SNOW AND COLD, LESS CRIME %26amp; TIM HORTONS!!!|||Although Edmonton is a large city (small by world standards) it%26#039;s really one small town. Most parts of the city are safe, but petty crime is felt in all areas. Decent schools. Nice springs, nice summers, nice autumns, and with global warming, the winter%26#039;s are almost nice. Lots to do, if you only look for it. (I%26#039;m listening to lawn bowling outside). International air travel usually needs to connect in Calgary, which is a nuisance, but, as an ex-Calgarian, I%26#039;d rather live in Edmonton than Calgary.|||Edmonton is a beautiful city. I lived there for 12 years. Right now the economy is booming. The cost of living is not really high, and there is only one sales tax compared to 2 in other provinces.
