Whether or not terrorists are planing attacks, whether or not police catch them, if the can get the materials/training they need, etc. There were no major terrorist attacks in the beginning of the 20th century, so does that mean that Presidents of that time had a good anti-terrorism policy, and were responsible for there being no terrorist attacks?

Bush has expended the powers of the President more than any other President in the history of the country, and has been part of numerous scandals:

-Attorney firings scandal

-infringing on rights guaranteed by the Bill of Rights by the PATRIOT act

-going to war on false pretenses: WMD%26#039;s

-calling people who don%26#039;t agree with him %26quot;cut and runners%26quot;

-his utter disregard for the system of checks and balances

-his signing notes, where he signs a bill into law, but says he doesn%26#039;t have to follow it

Asking people to be vigilant and to report suspicious activities will almost always help to safeguard communities.

The issue is when this broad police powers and public vigilance serve to severely undermine people%26#039;s rights. Considering there are groups in this country still plotting to do us harm (e.g. the Fort Dix attack plan), increased police powers and a vigilant society help to save lives. Maybe it will be time for a change when we start interring American citizens again, like we did after the attack on Pearl Harbor - but that has not happened yet.

Was the President responsible for the broadening of law enforcement powers and increased public vigilance? For the most part, yes. Could he have gone about it in a way that was probably more palatable to most people? Probably yes.

Like it or not, he was elected into office (twice) through the process outlined in the U.S. Constitution. The Legislature supported most of his actions, despite what they may now claim. If people disagree with him, there is a remedy they can exercise (impeachment - ask former Governor Gray Davis, D. Ca) and this hasn%26#039;t been done (and at this point, probably won%26#039;t be). It%26#039;s much easier to point the finger at the person doing the %26quot;dirty%26quot; work, than to stand up and assert what one thinks is right.|||I would think you were more of a rudy fan, what with him being a cross dresser too.|||I don%26#039;t know, but I wish George W Bush was the Secretary of State or Defense during the Clinton Years, then maybe 9/11 would have never happened.|||Because Bush is a Real Man.
